a hel-vetic-a good idea..

Hel-vetica because that's the name of a font and teepays about simple graphics and illustrations..howies the eco-friendly brand based in Wales ( and that's howies with a small h) teepay (..teepay with a small t) and sharing cake with the launch of a rather cool community inspired initiative. It's a simple concept, an online tee shirt community that designers can submit their graphic designs for consideration, if enough people order them, howies will print them onto their designs on to lovely organic tee shirts for men and women. teepays in a similar view as threadless the teeshirt brand that were pioneers in blending technology and ideas that bring together designers and teeshirt lovers online. teepay designers earn 10% royalties on each sale (or they can donate it to charity!) and get to hang on to the right to their designs. Howies support the teepay community by mucking in with marketing and PR so the more they sell the more they earn. Quite like the work of cool hand luke james illustrations, visit his portfolio website he's not bad! Look out for iamlaurie, superprecise (aka Joshua Willimas) Chrubble and Nicholas Saunders.

Mpho ..Box N Locks

Mpho looks really familiar, I'm sure from the time I spent freelancing as a music publicist working with Jonzi D on the Apricot Jam nights. Could be totally wrong and it be another girl ? Whatever the connection is, she's been on the circuit for time, its good to see her working it! I likey her latest track Box N Locks alot but then I am partial to the 'Echo Beach sample by Martha and the Muffins '. Mpho Originally from South Africa hence her style quotes Africa albeit mixed with a edgey street edge!
Loving this energy, she's another siren artist making noise. Her musical heritage and history explains it all, her pop's is Eugene Skeef aka South African musical legend Sipho Mabuse. Born in SA wiki says she spent her 1st birthday in a South African jail, her family fled Aparthied and resettled in South London. Like father like daughter we had to post her dad's video. I'll be keeping eyes and ears open for more from Mpho..

Michael Bosanko / Light Graffiti

The work of photograpgher Michael Bosanko, if you haven't seen Bosankos work before please, watch this is his latest video on YouTube!its falls is somewhere between a Glow Light and light writing. I've heard of graffiti lights but this is the first time I've seen a graffiti light writer. His video channel says that all images are created using torches and a camera in one exposure, with without the aid of photo editing! Made an attempt to figure out the technical wizadry behind this but I have absolutely no idea how this works, suffice to say.. it just works and we LOVE it! Hearts to Bosanko's amazing graffiti light show.

Jojo & Malou

Handshake Heartbreak HD from Jojo & Malou on Vimeo.

Not exactly sure how its happened or when, maybe the worm stated turning with Janelle Monae but I'm definitely noticing my wandering attention is roving around the costume and DRAMA take on fashion. An eccentric alter ego which never gets an outing is loving the energy and spunkyness of this crazy texstyle fuelled costume edge that's hanging around music and fashion right now. In the same vien as Miss Ebony Jones and Timothy James Andrews a few bits of news of the 'best fashion label ever, ever' Jojo & Malou. Swedish duo Jojo Ericson and Malou Palmqvist are happily busy, making noise and in-roads with the ladies in the music fraternity. Katy Perry has been spotted in the infamous gold sequined Josephine Baker inspired banana dress as was Shingai Shoniwa of the Noisettes , Sophie Ellis Bextor and Ebony Bones in French Vogue. With the general mood being sombre sequined bananas is good old fashioned fun!

Miss Ebony Bones

Ebony Bones some may remember her as Yasmine the blonde black girl from Family Affairs
She's still blonde but she's given up her childhood love..acting. She and her band have become permanent fixtures on the US festival circuit. Somehow liking the madness! Her in your face attitude and style has an air of Fred Butler meets Cooperative Designs meets Betty Suarez. She's wearing drama, theatre, costume texstyle knits in the style of Chelsea College and RCA alumni Timothy James Andrews. Andrews distinctive signature style has been described as 'colour overload' and I kinda like it. Ebony Bones' is not an easy one to miss but just in case keep an eye and an ear out for her.

Seize the Day..

People are touched by pain and loss everyday somewhere in the world. The past 12 months has been particularly heartbreaking, it runs close to home when friends and family member around you. I'm not intentionally trying to dampen spirits but life happens. A very lovely friend of my family is going through a particularly rough time, I wanted to let here know we're thinking of her and her family and hoping we'll see a bit of the sunshine back in her tail real soon.. Its important to share the ups and the downs.. highs and lows so here and here's an opportunity to really help make a difference.
"You may not know but 10 years ago fashion photographer Corinne Day was diagnosed with a tumour on her brain. She has endured years of surgery and treatment which has proven unsuccessful. She has suffered heartbreak and hardship and as she has not been able to work for the past year, she has exhausted all her finances. Her only option to continue battling this severe illness is specialist treatment in Arizona which has a very high success rate. If Corinne does not get this treatment there is no hope for her. The treatment is very expensive and we have all come together to try and raise the money needed which is in the realm of £100,000. There is no time left and we have to find funds for her in the next two weeks. To achieve this a limited Edition of 300 prints of a previously unpublished image of Kate Moss is being released. The unique 5x7 prints on archival fibre paper will be signed by Kate Moss and authenticated by Corinne’s fingerprint..v>

You have the opportunity to purchase this unique image at the special price of £100.
This will raise some of the money towards the treatment. The condition of purchase is that the print will not be purchased for re-sale. It is for your personal enjoyment and therefore sales will be on a first come first served basis. Specifically you may not sell or offer for sale the print on any Internet or website auction or through any commercial gallery or outlet for the period of three years, expiring 31st July 2012. We do hope you can all contribute to ‘Save the Day’ and help keep this wonderful groundbreaking photographer alive and healthy. Corinne is a very big and important part of our industry and we know you will all want to be involved in saving her"

Tales From The Seaside

Sadly the family and i wont be making the annual wander on the pebble beach and Lanes of Brighton. And although its been a while since I've been around art from the street.. Tales From The Seaside International Street Art exhibition at the Prescription Art Gallery reminded me of the if you want it doing , do it yourself. Prescription supports original artwork by emerging artists they're working hot street and urban artists from around the world. Giles.. Fashion In Motion

Taking my own advice, took a chance with the 3pm Giles
Fashion in Motion live catwalk event this afternoon at the
V&A. The show a mix of Giles Deacons favourite pieces from the
past five years.. was open to a wider than usual audience
not the industry but the general public. A tough but highly appreciative
audience loved his blend of glamour and grit pac man pop culture references,
meets bold prints, hoops and studs

Spotted Giles Deacon in the corridor. He posed for a picture
inbetween shows, ever so nice he was.. while I was ever so fluffy
and forgot to introduce myself ..oh bother.

Alex Wurfel & Wanessa (Select Models) sitting on a doorstep
taking a breather in between shows..

Roller Boogie Babies..

video

More fun from Evian's little ones with a boom box that as big as the baby! love, love this b-boy boogie babies video. Break dancing, roller skate tapping, head bopping, extreme street sporting film courtesy of the water people.

Pointers For Girls..

I've been a fan of Pointer for boys for a bit but some how the girls shoe missed my radar. Where ever possible I go for comfortable covers for my feet (especially when I'm chasing the toddler round the park!) so the London based independent footwear brand with the lo-fi aesthetic high comfort fit have my attention.
We like fun and a light hearted approach to the serious business of fashion and the people at Pointer with their good sense of fun who name their shoes after people and places, and quote art, music, history and breakfast!? in their design get the point..er ! They seem to like playful contrasts, delightful details and original graphic artwork. Red suede bootees called 'Judy'.. (of the Garland and Oz kind maybe?) that look like they've been designed with a musical muse in mind.
Not shy of colour they neatly balance bright flashes of brilliance with classic neutral colour (brown leather plimmies called Hesperus). The collection takes in sneakers and boat shoes, stitched-down traditional's and click-three-times heels. As they say .. "Pointer do not care much for collectibles, nor for crippling oneself in the pursuit of fashion.. Pointer just wants to play" as a super added bonus spotted a few pairs left in the The Three Threads sale on-line.. £31.00! .. 40% off..
