This week is crammed full of London Fashion Week posts, so to change focus for a moment I thought it would interesting to post this piece on Spin: the Art of Record Design and design agency Form. Its impossible to walk through at Hub at the University of The Arts without noticing whats going in the Arts Gallery exhibition space. I had an idea and decided to get in touch with the Gallery to see if they'd give me permission to film an exhibition in the process of being set up and also interview an artist taking part. They said OK and would I like to get in touch with Form.
The setting up process part of the idea flopped, I'd imagined a cool time lapsed mini piece of film footage that actually my C902 cant do.. yet! Never mind on wards and upwards.. ! Spin: The Art Of Record Design is all about iconic album covers and I have a tiny collection of 12' covers that I've bought because of their artwork so I was looking forward to getting some inside insight from the professionals. Form have 2 album covers in the show Everything But The Girl Walking Wounded and Girls Aloud Biology. The Form team are warm, friendly, happy agency which made it very a great. Form are know within design circles for their talent in art direction and graphic design which they use to bring strong original ideas and concepts to life. Being your boss is hard, you have to work for it so I felt quite privileged to have the opportunity to visit Paul West and Paula Benson at their award winning design consultancy. Paul gave me a tour of the office, we chatted about the agency, music, the future, globalisation, their book Shelf Life, John Cleese and of course the album covers in the exhibition.
